[FREE DOWNLOAD] Homeschooling Through High School: A Roadmap for Your Family’s Next Chapter

As your child approaches high school, homeschooling can begin to feel different.

You may find yourself wondering: What subjects should we choose? How do I keep track of their learning? What should go on a transcript? How can we prepare for life after Grade 12?

You do not need to have every answer today. You need a starting point, a way to stay organized, and a plan that can grow with your teen.

That is why we created the Homeschooling Through High School Roadmap, a free, 18-page guide from Tazamach Homeschooling Academy for families planning Grades 9–12.

Start With Your Teen

Before filling a schedule with courses, take time to talk with your teen.

What do they enjoy learning? Which skills come naturally to them? Where do they need more support? What would they like to explore?

Their answers can help you build a meaningful plan. A teen interested in entrepreneurship might enjoy a business project alongside their academic work. A student who loves writing may want to develop a portfolio. Another may need additional time to strengthen reading or mathematics skills.

High school planning should make room for both future goals and present learning needs.

Take It One Year at a Time

A four-year overview helps you see the direction you are heading, while an annual plan makes the work manageable.

Our roadmap breaks the journey into four areas of focus:

  • Grade 9: Build foundations. Strengthen core skills, practise study habits, explore interests, and begin keeping learning records.

  • Grade 10: Explore options. Develop skills, try meaningful electives, and research possible future pathways.

  • Grade 11: Prepare with purpose. Review progress, compare programs, check entry requirements, and begin organizing deadlines.

  • Grade 12: Complete and transition. Finish planned learning, finalize records, and prepare for further education, training, or work.

These are flexible planning prompts. Your teen’s pace and circumstances may look different, and your plan can change as they grow.

Keep Records Along the Way

It is easier to document learning throughout the year than to reconstruct everything later.

Keep a folder for each course with its learning goals, materials, assessments, results, and selected work samples. Save official records from any outside course providers as well.

A portfolio can also help your teen see their own progress. Essays, science reports, creative projects, practical skills, and reflections can show how their abilities are developing.

The roadmap includes a four-year course planner, credit tracker, transcript guidance, and student portfolio checklist to help you organize this information.

Look Beyond One Pathway

What comes after high school deserves an ongoing conversation.

Your teen may be interested in university, college, a trade, an apprenticeship, employment, entrepreneurship, or a purposeful gap year.

Explore possibilities together. Research the preparation each pathway requires, discuss costs, and identify practical steps your teen can take now.

Education, credit, graduation, and admission requirements vary by location and institution. Confirm the rules that apply to your family and contact prospective programs directly when planning courses and records.
